Early Life and Education
Born on November 4, 1962, in Ibadan, Nigeria, Femi Otedola was raised in a family that valued hard work and education. His father, the late Sir Michael Otedola, was the former governor of Lagos State, which played a significant role in shaping Femi’s leadership qualities. Femi Otedola studied at Obafemi Awolowo University, where he developed a passion for business and entrepreneurship.

Femi Otedola started his career in the oil and gas industry with Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited, where he quickly made a name for himself by raising the bar in the industry. In 2007, he bought a majority stake in African Petroleum Plc, which he transformed into Forte Oil Plc. Under his leadership, Forte Oil grew and became a leader in Nigeria's oil and gas sector, known for its strong corporate governance, diversified investments, and quick financial results.
In 2018, Femi sold his shares in Forte Oil and shifted his focus to the power sector, acquiring a major stake in Geregu Power Plc. Today, Geregu Power Plant, which has a capacity of 435MW, supplies about 9% of Nigeria’s national electricity.
Femi also has investments in other industries like shipping, storage, insurance, and more, showing his broad impact on Nigeria’s economy. He has served on several major corporate boards and has been a leader in the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping and as Chairman of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
