The entertainment world was shaken by allegations that cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, served his six-month prison sentence in a private apartment rather than at Kirikiri Correctional Centre. This came to light when social media influencer Vincent Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM), released an audio recording claiming Bobrisky was hidden in an apartment arranged by high-profile individuals, including rapper Falz.
Bobrisky was sentenced in March for money laundering and Naira mutilation after flaunting money at a public event. Although sentenced to six months in prison, he resurfaced on social media in August, looking far too refreshed for someone just out of jail. In the recording, Bobrisky allegedly stated that he was placed in an apartment near the prison through connections with the Nigerian Correctional Service, with claims that the EFCC was bribed to drop charges against him.
VDM accused Falz and his father, Femi Falana (SAN), of attempting to secure a presidential pardon for Bobrisky. In response, Falz denied all involvement, issuing a 24-hour ultimatum demanding VDM retract the allegations or face legal action. Falz confirmed Bobrisky asked him for financial help but insists he declined.
VDM, however, has refused to apologize, stating that his claims were based on Bobrisky’s words and calling for further investigation. The EFCC and Nigerian Correctional Service have launched their own inquiries, with two officers already suspended for their alleged role in the scandal. Meanwhile, VDM’s lawyer claims his client has been receiving threats and is now in hiding for his safety.
Government bodies, including the House of Representatives and the Minister of Interior, have expressed shock and ordered further probes into the case, vowing to bring those involved to justice.
